Yoga, translated from ancient Sanskrit, means "yoke" or "union, to unite." "Yoga is a systematic practice of self-discovery that leads the student to higher levels of health, understanding, and awareness."
The practice of Yoga began in ancient India. Those who practiced Yoga called themselves Yogis. Many Yogis were also Hindu. It all began when Yogis/Hindus would practice meditation for hours on end, only their physical bodies got in the way. Yoga was desi gned to stretch a person's body in order to relax muscles that normally stiffen from being in the same position while meditating.
Different types and levels of Yoga increase health and awareness in various ways. When deciding on a class to enroll in, consider the following: whether you are looking for relaxation and awareness, or health and fitness techniques.
