Nebraska football is as much a part of Nebraskans' lives as corn is. Or so it's been said. 1997 was a monumental year for fans of Nebraska football. Head coach Tom Osborne retired after 25 years and Nebraska won their fifth National Championship.
Despite Marian's own nonexistent football team, students still have high interest in Nebraska football. You can find senior Trish O'Doherty in front of the television for every Nebraska game. Coach Osborne may be a hero in Nebraska for Nebraskans, but not everyone is a native Big Red fan. Junior Amanda Silke moved to Nebraska from Kansas 14 months ago. "I'm not as psycho about the team as some people, but I may be getting there!"
Frank Solich will be replacing Osborne as Head Coach. Solich has been an assistant to Coach Osborne since 1979. "I can't say much about the new head coach because I don't know what he's capable of doing. Osborne was a good couch but it's time for him to move on," said Megan Johnson, freshman.
Nebraska football will continue on, as will student's dedication to the team. "I love Nebraska football. I always have," said OÕDoherty. Coach Osborne has left a winning legacy behind and a lot of proud Nebraskans.
