Students Utilize Seven Day Break

by Tracie Mollner

Marian students took a break from the high school chaos March 13-20 for their Spring Break. Although the blizzard the week before gave students two early days off, the official days of Spring Break were very much appreciated. Several took this opportuni ty to make some extra money working, others visited colleges, and even more opted to vacation.

Senior Talia Carmichael spent her time away from school at Homeplace, her place of employment, and visiting Saint Louis University and Chicago. ÒI worked during most of the break, and went to SLU for one night. I also managed to go to a taping of Jerry Springer in Chicago. IÕm glad I got so much accomplished in the past week,Ó said Carmichael.

Junior Mary Tiedeman also experienced a television taping. While on a college visit to Georgia Tech in Atlanta, she was on the set for CNNÕs Talk Back Live.

Several seniors took a quick trip to Kansas City. ÒI went down with nine other girls for a night, and it took us six hours to get to our destination,Ó said senior Audrey Kantor. ÒIt was the perfect bonding experience, and the shopping was great,Ó Kantor added.

Colorado is often a highly visited spot during Spring Break. Juniors Katie Burns, Liz Bruening, and Andrea Fox went to Breckenridge to ski and relax. ÒThe ratio of guys to girls in Breckenridge is nine to one, so you can imagine what a blast we had,Ó said Burns.

Seniors Tanya Nair, Jill Leise, and Molly Cuddigan went to Washington, D.C. and were able to visit the Holocaust museum. ÒIt was a touching experience. We actually got to see everything that we learned about in school. It was a great learning experienc e,Ó said Nair.

Spring Break ended the third quarter of the school year, and allowed students to re-collect themselves for the last few months of school. ÒI donÕt know what I would do without a Spring Break,Ó said sophomore Amy Sibbernsen.
