<Top Two in Class of '98
By Emily Morrison
Looking back on her four years of high school, Julie Ruma, Class
of 1998 salutatorian, saw Marian as challenging and full of opportunities.
RI think that Marian has provided me with many other experiences, besides
its academics, that I did not expect.S
Julie attended Columbian Elementary and Beveridge Jr. High before
she attended Marian. Julie decided to come here after she visited with a
friend. RI loved it. People seemed to enjoy their classes.S Julie
expected Marian to be challenging, and it is easy to see that it was for
her, with a GPA of 4.34 combined with all of her extracurricular
activities. Julie remembers Honors Chemistry, Honors Government, and
Honors Calculus to be some of her most challenging classes, but
Rregardless of the class, things did not always come easy, and I had to
work hard.S
Varsity soccer is just one of JulieUs extracurricular activities.
She played on varsity soccer all four years. Julie has also been a class
officer for four years, and she was voted as president for her senior
class this year. Among other activities, Julie has participated in
Spanish Club, recruitment team, and peer helpers. She was also a Freshman
retreat leader this year.
For college, Julie was looking for a school with good academics
and Division I soccer. Julie chose University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee
because Rit has a lot of academic opportunities, in addition to a great
soccer program.S She also said that she fell in love with the city of
Milwaukee. Julie received an athletic scholarship to UWM and the
ChancellorUs Scholarship.
JulieUs plans of study change very often. Right now, Julie is
thinking of combining her talents in academics and athletics for her
career choice. RI am considering a major in Math. I think that coaching
and teaching would be very rewarding.S Julie has not yet decided for
sure, but whatever she decides, it is with no doubt that her successes
will carry on to her next step in life.
