You are taking down your Christmas decorations, when suddenly a melancholy feeling washes over you. You are saddened at the thought of Christmas being over. All the build up and excitement of the big day is over, before you even realized it had begun. Every year Christmas seems to sneak up on so many people that they then do not really have a chance to enjoy the spirit of the holidays. But once the magical holiday has passed, many people seem to become depressed at the thought of the special holiday season being over. The long, cold, dreary months of winter loom ahead endlessly with nothing exciting to look forward to except the rest of winter.
Many people seem saddened at the end of the Christmas Season because of the major let down that occurs right after Christmas is over. There is so much build up and hype to the Christmas Season and then the day after Christmas it is all over. ÒThere i s so much
People feel that Christmas is built up more and more every year and that once it is over you are left with a feeling of disappointment about it being over and sadness because you want the happiness to return. ÒThe day after Christmas is really sad bec ause all the excitement and all of the happiness is gone,Ó said Katie Michalski, junior. People would just like that happiness to continue for a little bit longer.
For some people the post Christmas blues come because they feel that they never really got to celebrate Christmas in the first place. People are so rushed at this time of the year that they often do not have time to stop and really celebrate Christmas.
"Everything came really fast this year. We put up our decorations late and we only celebrated Christmas for a week," said Katie Niemann, sophomore. The question of where did the time go and where did this magical holiday go leave many people sad because they did not have time to celebrate Christmas the way they really wanted would have liked to.
Some people, on the other hand, find that the post Christmas blues do not really affect them. They do not seem to be sad or disappointed when the Christmas season is over. ÒChristmas being over does not really affect me, it really does not make me sad ," said Carrie Nabity, freshman. For these people life goes on and there will always be another Christmas season next year to celebrate. Christmas is a happy time of year, so why dwell on the negative.
So whether you are sad to see Christmas go or glad to see it go away along with Santa and the mall traffic, just remember Christmas is coming again soon. Very soon, in a matter of 315 days.
