Eileen Maziarz
By Vanessa Silke
Anyone who attended a Marian home basketball game this season most
likely saw senior Eileen Maziarz as the Crusader, MarianUs mascot, leading
cheers and greeting fans. She may have also been seen at Operation Others
activities, NHS meetings, helping frustrated students as one of her duties
as a TAR, or maybe in the hall on the way to a class.
Some students may have also attended grade school with her at Mary
Our Queen. Maziarz has many memories of grade school and the sports she
participated in. ROne time at basketball practice in seventh grade, Tracy
Mollner and I depantsed Katie Eiting. She was so upset she ran off crying
and I laughed so hard I wet my pants on the free-throw line!S
Looking back on her four years at Marian, the Class of 1998
valedictorian has countless memories from the many activities she
participated in, but what she will remember most are the simple things.
RMy favorite memories of Marian are laughing every day with my friends,S
said Maziarz.
Along with her extracurricular activities, Maziarz also completed
a rigorous academic schedule, which included Honors AP Government, Honors
AP British Literature, and Calculus BC. RThe hardest part of Government
class was the project - my group had to design and construct a web page.S
Some of her classes have also had a significant impact on her plans for
the future. RTaking Claculus BC has made me look into a possible major in
chemical engineering.S The Religion courses have also influenced her
life. RThanks to Faith class and Mr. Koesters, I will always remember to
pray for TADS!S
Maziarz, who will attend Duke Universuty in the fall, plans to
study chemical engineering and theology. She attained Valedictorian
status as a result of her 4.35 GPA. RAlthough all the college decisions
were tough I look forward to the freedom of living on my own,S said
Maziarz. Next fall, she will live in Durham, North Carolina.
