
The cross country team had a successful season, placing fourth overall at Metros on Oct. 9 , first out of six teams at Districts on Oct. 16, and fifth at State on Oct. 24. The state finish was the teamÕs best in 10 years.
Individuals also placed well at state. Anna Jones, sophomore, placed seventh out of 100 runners. Katy Weller, sophomore, placed 20th. Christine Gordon, senior, came in at 39th. Ann Potter, sophomore, followed at 46th.
ÒThis was one of the best teams in MarianÕs cross country history,Ó said Coach Roger Wright. Mr. Wright said the team worked hard at both meets and work outs.
The season itself proved to be athletically difficult, but at the same time a lot of fun. ÒIt was hard work, but fun,Ó Sarah Volkman, senior, said.
Jenny Poell, junior, agreed. ÒOverall, I think we worked really hard,Ó she said.
There were a lot of new faces on the team this year. ÒIt was
great to see a lot of new people, not only freshmen and sophomores, but also upperclassmen,Ó said Liz Dyer, sophomore.
