Cheerleading and Pom Squads Show Spirit

This summer, the cheerleading and pom squads attended camps at Creighton and Wesleyan Universities.

The freshman, reserve, junior varsity and varsity cheerleading squads attended the UCA (Universal Cheerleading Association) camp at Creighton University the week of July 18-23. The varsity squad consists of 11 members, the junior varsity, reserve and freshman squads all have eight members. They practiced three days a week to get ready for camp. The squads received spirit sticks all four nights, Most Improved Squad awards, and excellent and superior ribbons on cheers and chants. "All the squads did a great job," said moderator, Mrs. Stacie Denning.

"Our squads had a great time getting to know each other better," said senior Tricia Easley. "We had fun."

Armed with their new, one-piece uniforms, the pom squad attended the NCA Danz (National Cheerleading Associaton- Dance) camp at Wesleyan University in Lincoln. The camp took place the week of June 23-26 and the 17 girls on the squad practiced Monday through Friday from 7-9 a.m. to prepare for it. The squad received a spirit pom all four nights, the NCA Danz Spirit Award, a Technical Excellence Award, a Superior Showmanship Award, Circle of Winners-Silver Award, and a superior rating on both Home and Team Performance routines. "I thought the pom squad did extremely well at camp," said captain Lauren Bartlett, senior. "I was impressed with all the talent on the squad and also with peoples' ability to work together."

The cheerleaders and pom squad are now preparing for the State Spirit Spectacular which takes place November 15 at Ralston High School. You can also see the cheerleaders at volleyball and basketball games and the pom squad at all home basketball gam es and at Creighton PrepÕs homecoming football game.
