How to Jump Start a Car
  1. The second vehicle must have at least as much voltage as yours (most will be 12 volt.)
  2. Make sure vehicles arenUt touching.
  3. Set emergency brakes and put both vehicles in park (neutral for standard transmissions).
  4. Shut down all electrical accessories (radios, lights, etc.) and turn off both ignitions.
  5. Attach the orange or red cable to the positive battery terminal on the car that will start.
  6. Attach the black cable to the negative terminal to the car the runs. (the battery should say which terminal is positive and negative).
  7. Attach the orange and black cables the same way on the car.
  8. Start the car that has battery power first and let it warm up a bit.
  9. Then, start the other car.
  10. If the car doesn't start, let it charge longer while giving the running car gas.
  11. Then, try to start the car again.
  12. After the dead car has run for several minutes, unclip the jumper cables in the reverse order that they were attached.
  13. Leave the revived car running for at least 30 minutes.
  14. Be careful not to leave your interior lights on or other things that can quickly drain the battery.
