ATTENTION SENIORS AND PARENTS: Senior students who receive a scholarship must bring the original scholarship letter to Mrs. Zimmerman in the College Center. She will make a copy. The scholarship will then be listed in the Graduation Program and published in the Omaha World Herald. No scholarship information will be printed without the original scholarship letter. Deadline for publication is April 22, 2009

COLLEGE SPECIFIC UPDATES & SCHOLARSHIPS

 

 

Boston University:  Trustee scholarship and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships require student be nominated or recommended by principal, teacher or advisor.  www.bu.edu/admissions/scholarships

 

College of Saint Benedict/St. JohnÕs University:  students interested seriously interested in attending College of St. Ben can obtain a campus visit voucher for a fly-in weekend from counselors.

 

College of St. Mary:  check file for list of scholarships available.  Many scholarships available.

 

 

Iowa Western Community College:  several scholarships available Ð check college file

 

 

Midwest Student Exchange Program:  a tuition reduction program that makes attending out-of-state colleges and universities more affordable for non-resident students.  States involved ate Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin.  Learn more at http://msep.mhec.org

 

Northwest Missouri State University:  American Dream Grant for first time freshmen attending NWMSU.  Covers tuition, room & board, textbooks and laptop. 

 

Peru State College:   2 different music scholarships available.

 

Simpson College:  4 scholarships available.  Check College file.

 

St. EdwardÕs University (Austin) has 2 prestigious scholar awards for students enrolling at St. Edwards.

 

University of Dayton:  TrusteesÕ Merit, PresidentÕs Merit, DeansÕ Merit, Father Chaminade scholarships based on SAT or ACT score.  99% of freshmen received some sort of financial aid last year.  www.scholarship.udayton.edu

 

University of Kansas:  The Visual Arts Freshman Scholarship for highly qualified and creative students to be admitted to the School of Fine Arts.  Info in college file.

 

UNO Thompson Learning Community:  for students receiving the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation Scholarship.  See details for scholarship at www.buffettscholarships.org

 

University of St. Thomas:  V. J. Guinan Full-Tuition scholarship available to students who excel academically and demonstrate themselves to be a good fit for the Catholic mission of UST.

 

 

 

 

 

TESTING DATES and ACT/SAT Prep classes

Aim High Test Prep will hold a session of classes prior to the June 13th ACT test Ð call 491-0492 to register.  Cost is $750.

Millard Public Schools:  summer session from June 10 Ð June 26 from 7:45 Ð 10:50.  Resident cost is $60; nonresident cost is $90.

Spring ÒCollege AffairesÓ will help students begin college search efforts

Your high school students Ð especially juniors and sophomores Ð can begin their college search efforts during college fairs slated for May 6 in Lincoln and May 7 in Omaha. The Lincoln College Affaire will feature over 60 Midwest colleges, and the Omaha College Affaire will feature over 70 colleges. The fairs are sponsored by EducationQuest and The Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling.

Each fair will also feature financial aid presentations.

 

Share these tips with your students to help them make the most of their College Fair visit:

Before you attend, determine which colleges you want to visit (a list is available in the College Affaire article at EducationQuest.org). Arrive early so you have time to visit your top colleges.

 

Prepare a list of questions to ask the college representatives. Ask about deadlines for admission, scholarships and financial aid.

 

Prepare pre-printed labels with your name and address to stick on information cards at college booths where you want additional information.
